Unfinished Strip Flooring (hardwood)
Lumber is carefully pre-dried in a climate-controlled system, and then kiln dried to exact standards of moisture content needed to assure lasting quality. Boards are then milled to create ready to finish hardwood floors all with precise tongue and groove configuration for easy installation. All boards are graded according to the natural characteristics of their appearance, produced and graded according to NOFMA Certified Grade Standards.
Unfinished Strip Flooring:
-
¾" or ½" thick
-
Widths of 1½", 2¼" and 3¼"
-
Grades available include Clear, Rift & Qtr, Select, No 1 Common and No 2 Common
-
Species Available include Red Oak and White Oak
Grades
Appearance alone will determine the grade of flooring since the strength of hardwood is achieved through interlocking tongues and grooves and is uniformly strong regardless of grade. Boards are individually graded according to the natural characteristics of their appearance. Grades are determined by clarity, grain appearance, knots, dark stains, character marks and other features that might have been present in the tree. Read more at NOFMA GRADE PHOTOS | NWFA
Janka Scale
The Janka hardness test measures the force required to embed a .444 inch steel ball to half its diameter into the wood. It is one of the known ways to test the ability and wear of hardwood flooring. The higher the number, the harder the species of wood.
